Falmouth Maritime Museum
Under the Sea Special Exhibition
2007 Nov
Falmouth Maritime Museum is staging a special exhibition entitled Under The Sea. Under The Sea celebrates man's exploration of inner space from the earliest days to the present. Ocean Optics/Mavericks Diving London was asked if we could help out with some items of underwater camera equipment from the Ocean Optics collection. If you've visited our London Strand showrooms, you'll have seen that we have a small selection of underwater cameras and diving equipment from yesteryear on display. We've also been lucky enough to have exhibited our equipment at Historical Diving Society events at dive shows and at the London Aquarium.

We were delighted to have been asked to be involved with Falmouth Maritime Museum and have supplied a Calpsophot camera (built for Cousteau's Undersea Research Group and is the forerunner of the Nikonos line), a one-off housing built by Peter Scoones for Colin Doeg's Nikon F in the late sixties (Peter and Colin co-founded the British Society of Underwater Photographers in 1967), a special deep water inspection camera that was developed and manufactured by Peter, and a Rolleimarin. All Rolleimarin's are a bit special. They were designed by famed undersea explorer Hans Hass in 1951 and produced into the mid seventies. But ours is more special than most! Not only is it unused, it forms the centrepiece of our Visions in the Sea Award for Outstanding Contributions to Underwater Photography.

We hope you'll get a chance to visit the Falmouth Maritime Museum and enjoy Under the Sea.
