Diving Medicals
Information and Contacts
Scuba diving is one of those sports that can have its share of medical issues. Some conditions, such as diabetes, need to be evaluated by a specialist before you start diving to ensure your safety. Some illnesses do exclude people from diving, just as poor vision may exclude them from driving a car. Diving is a team activity and covering up or ignoring potentially dangerous medical issues jeopardize the safety of those around you, not just youself.

We ask our own students to take a brief, but diving specific, medical before joining their first course with us. We feel it protects you, us and the people you are diving with. We are aware of arguments put forward that a lack of understanding by GPs of diving medicine can slew the results and devalue them. However, in the UK, and in London especially, it's easy to see a diving specialist. We feel that the small cost and inconvenience of taking a diving medical is a good investment and a useful step towards increasing your safety.

Dr Peter King-Lewis is the specialist we recommend you see for recreational and commercial diving medicals or to discuss any diving health concerns. Peter always keeps up to date on diving medicine, is invariably thorough and is a true diving enthusiast. Always engaging, you can find yourself sitting in his surgery watching sharks on his computer screen or discussing road bikes..... Peter has looked after our crew for many years now. He also works with our friends on the dive team at The London Aquarium.
