Located some 800 miles from the Asian mainland, between Taiwan and Borneo, the Philippines are an archipelago consisting of over 7000 islands. These border the Philippine Sea to the east, the South China Sea to the west, and the Celebes Sea to the south. The climate is tropical marine, with a yearly average daytime temperature of 27°C, and the rainy season in May to October. The water temperature ranges between 25°C in the winter and 29°C in the summer, but can go as low as 22°C at depth.
