Visions in the Sea
Annually in October/November, London, U.K.
Visions in the Sea, the annual underwater photography conference staged in London by Ocean Optics, was first held at the London Aquarium in 1996. Its format continues to be unique in Europe and attracts delegates not only from throughout the UK but also as far afield as Italy and Scandinavia.

Over the years the speakers have included such iconic figures as National Geographic's David Doubilet, adventurer Amos Nachoun and much-published Douglas David Siefert from the United States, the UK's own godfather of wildlife underwater cameramen Peter Scoones, Michael Aw from Australia, Pete Atkinson who is now living in Thailand, Ralf Kiefner and Tom Peshack from Germany, Andrea and Antonella Ferrari from Italy, Constantinos Petrinos from Greece, Scottish-borne Lawson Wood who lives in the Caymans, Espend Rekdal from Norway, and Dos Winkel whose home is in Belgium.

The full galaxy of the UK's most talented underwater photographers have also featured on the programme, including Martin Edge, Charles Hood, Alex Mustard, Peter Rowlands, Mark Webster, Jack Jackson, John Collins, Paul Kay, Jean-Phillipe "JP" Trenque, Anne-Marie Kitchen-Wheeler and Maria Munn plus intrepid cave diver and film maker Gavin Newman.

The topics have ranged from photographing some of the sea's tiniest creatures such as the pygmy seahorse to fearsome great white sharks and the techniques discussed have moved seamlessly from film to the new world of digital photography.

Visions in the Sea attracts to its stage as speakers many of the world's leading underwater photographers. Its purpose is to inform, encourage and inspire delegates to take even better images whenever they venture beneath the waves.
