Reels
Reels are indepensable for many types of diving activities. They can be
used for towing floats, sending up delayed surface marker buoys and lift
bags, employed to make line searches or as distance lines and to run a
safety guideline during wreck and cavern or cave penertration that you
can use to retrace your route back to open water.
Mavericks offer a selection of reels to suit most recreational diving needs.
Saeko Dive Metal Wreck Reels
These sturdy reels are configured for use with a torch or light head held
in the same hand, making them a good choice for penetration dives. The
oversized winder is easy to use with gloves. The reel can be set to free
run or you can apply tension progressively as you prefer. There's a clip
for securing your reel to a D ring.
Two sizes are offered. The small reel carries 45 metres of line
(included). The large version comes with 80 metres of line.
Saeko Dive Small Plastic Wreck
Reel
This real is suited to general open water diving such as making searches,
reeling off from your shot line or sending up delayed surface marker
buoys and lift bags. The design of the grip does not lend itself to using
a light, making it less practical for penertratioin dives.
The reel has an easy to use release lever to let the line run out freely,
such as when deploying a DSMB. The reel is racheted. To reel in, such as
during your ascent, just wind. If you pause during the ascent, such as at
your safety stop, the rachet means the line won't accidentally unspool.
The winder is oversized for use with gloves and a clip is included to
attach your reel to a D ring.
The Saeko dive Small Plastic Wreck Reel is supplied with 45 metres of line.
Aquatec Sport Reel
The Aquatec Sport Reel is a good choice for general diving activities
such as laying out a search pattern, reeling out from your shot or
deploying lift bags and delayed surface marker buoys. The grip is not
really suited to carrying a torch in the same hand for exploring overhead
environments.
The Aquatec spool is semi enclosed making it hard for the line to jump over
the edge of the spool and jam around the axle. This feature helps avoid a
common problem, especially with launching DSMBs, which can lead to the
diver having to jettison the buoy and reel to avoid being dragged to the
surface.
The Aquatec Sport Reel has a convenient sliding switch that lets you
select a free running mode, which is useful for sending up DSMBs and
liftbags, a locking position which locks the line which means that once
you reach your safety or deompression stop you can hang from the reel and
a skip setting that creates a little tension.
The Aquatec Sport Reel is provided with 45 metres of line.
Aquatec Spools
Spools offer a compact and simpler alternative to a reel. They are
popular for deploying DSMBs. Spools have no mechanisms that can jam,
making them very reliable.
Aquatec spools are available in a small model, carrying just 20 metres of
line and a large version that holds 45 metres.
