Fins
Fins are how we propel ourselves through the water. Different types of
fins suit different requirements. The extremes of fin design range from
simple short-bladed plastic versions for pottering around on the
surface, to carbon fibre models nearly one metre in length for freediving
to great depths on a single breath. In between is a sometimes bewildering
choice of fins to suit snorkellers and scuba divers. Some fins are easy to
use, but perform less well against currents, others provide greater
thrust but require you to be fitter. Certain blade designs will only be
effective when moving forwards, others allow you much greater
manoeuvrability and can even allow you to move backwards.
Mavericks carries a broad selection of fin types for casual snorkellers, committed freedivers and all levels of scuba diver, together with spring heel straps, spare fin straps, hard soled boots and neoprene socks.

£46.50-£51.95 (size dependent)
Top of the line full-foot Aqua Lung fin. Suitable for snorkelling and
scuba diving. Special membrane blade design allows the blade to deform to
develop maximum thrust for minimal effort. Highly efficient and very
comfortable due to soft foot pocket. Available in sizes 36 to 47.
US Divers Hydro Split
Budget split fin for keen snorkellers. Combining split blade and surface
areas that are designed to scoop the water creates lots of thrust for
very little energy. Simple flutter kick familiar to any swimmer is all
that's required. you don't need to use any special finning techniques.
Adjustable strap ensures secure fit. Includes mesh carrying and drying
bag. Available in sizes 5 to 13.
Bowstone Traditional Rubber Vented Fins
Based on a design created nearly 45 years ago, and still going strong.
Vented fins provide both a lot of power and great manoeuvrability. Still
popular with many combat divers. Today, many cave and wreck divers use them.
The vented design helps ease the weaker recovery kick by allowing water to easily pass through the blade. The angle of the blade on the downward power stroke causes the water to flow over the blade, rather than through the vents creating forward thrust.
The heavy rubber blade also helps keep your feet down and can eliminate the need for ankle weights.
Aqua Lung Pulse
This sleek, rugged and powerful fin from the Aqua Lung Group is
remarkable value from Mavericks Diving London. The long plastic blade
features channelling vanes and anti-spill side rails that keep the water
- and the forward thrust - heading out behind you as it should. The Aqua
Lung Pulse is supplied with a one-hand adjustable strap with quick
release buckles.
US Divers Rocket Fin
The classic US Divers Rocket Fin was quietly dropped from the Aqua Lung
fin range some years ago. But, with minor modifications, it remained in
production for the military, including the US Navy SEALs. Now the US
Divers Rocket Fin is back and available to recreational divers once
again. The solid rubber blade is stiff, helping with manoeuvrability,
including moving backwards. They are known for delivering a lot of
thrust, though it helps to be dive fit! Vents help channel water through
the fin on the weaker recovery stroke, reducing effort. US Divers Rocket
Fins have comparatively short blades and this makes them firm favourites
of technical divers who are working in confined spaces around guidelines
as the risk of entanglement and collision is reduced. The new Rocket Fin has a large
pull loop on the fin strap to ease donning and doffing and the blade features an eyelet for hanging the fins up for storage.
Trident Spring Heel Straps
Virtually unbreakable, making them excellent value for money and all but
eliminating the annoyance of a snapped fin strap just as you were about
to giant stride into the blue (fins are the last thing you put on, so
that's when the strap will choose to self-destruct). The stainless steel
coiled spring automatically and instantly adjusts to the correct fit. Internal
cord prevents spring over-stretching to prolong life. Moulded heel pad
for comfort. Pull tab for easy donning and doffing. Quick release buckle
design.
Replace most modern fin buckle and strap assemblies in seconds and without tools....
Spare Fin Straps
An essential item if you use open-back fins. We can supply you with
either just straps or complete replacement strap and HF quick release
buckle sets.
